Basement Remodel in Parker, CO: Improve your basement, improve your life

Jerry with CID Basements recently remodeled a basement in Parker, CO. The space was previously finished, not up to code, and was an inefficient use of space. Below is a detailed walkthrough of Jerry’s work, including photos of the finished basement (before images of the basement can be found to the right). The family went from having an unusable space, and concerns about not being able to find a contractor willing to take on the headache of remodeling a basement that had failed multiple inspections, to a gorgeous space that includes a bedroom, two bathrooms, home office and large space for the children to do homework and the wife to run her creative business. For a free estimate, click here.

The Brown family moved into their home in Parker that featured a finished basement that they were very excited about. They had children that needed a place to run and play, a craft area for projects and a home office. It was a fairly large space that mirrored the upstairs of their ranch style home which meant they would have double the space for their growing family.

After they moved in they started realizing that there were a few deficiencies and problems with the space. The previous homeowner had showed them some paperwork showing that he had started the permitting and inspection process with the city of Parker, but had never completed the process and they quickly found paperwork showing many failed attempts at passing inspections.

The previous homeowner just walked away from the process leaving the new owner to contend with the issues. The basement was poorly laid out with excessive wasted space and cut up areas with no real use. The basement was dark and cold with no insulation in the walls and a very poor lighting scheme and numerous building code violations and issues.

Like many families the Browns had grown very comfortable in their neighborhood and their kids schools and didn’t like the idea of taking on a new and larger mortgage commitment to move to a home that would suit their growing family’s needs.

So they started contemplating the big project of making the basement usable, they talked to several contractors with many of them saying that they weren’t interested because of the headache of dealing with a full demolition and dealing with electrical and HVAC that would have to be investigated and corrected.

They contacted Jerry with CID Basements and because of his 40+ years in construction, remodeling and cabinet making he was happy to take a look at the project. After evaluating the project and allowing for unforeseen issues the Brown family took on the challenge and hired CID Basements to manage the project.

After demolition was completed and all code issues mitigated the process of building their new level began. It was determined that with the money already being spent, a dampered heating and cooling system that would allow for the upstairs and downstairs to be heated and cooled separately would be a good investment. Because the furnace was older the Browns decided to install a new furnace and air conditioning unit as well. This way the HVAC system would be ready to go for another 25 years or more. They also installed a new high efficiency hot water heater to accommodate the family’s water needs

Mr. Brown had previously been using space beside his bed as an office, because the basement was too cold in the winter. The Browns worked closely with Jerry to design a layout that would allow for two large bedrooms, a ¾ bathroom along with an additional half bathroom, a large craft area and the office that was desperately needed. Jerry’s 40+ years of design and general contracting experience was the difference that turned the Brown basement into the functional space it is today.

Even with a complete demolition and a completely new HVAC system and hot water heater the project went smoothly and worked toward completion seamlessly. Within less than three short months the project was completed and the family was enjoying the new space.

The Browns are happy to be in their same neighborhood with friends and neighbors that they have all gotten to know with double the space they had originally. With the basement behind them and a wonderful experience with CID Basements. The Browns are now starting a remodel project on the main floor to update the kitchen and the rest of the home which will eventually include a full master bathroom remodel.
